GPS+ technology.

The GPS/GNSS receiver inside the new G-Series+ rally computer is a high power system that gives the best in sensitivity and signal strength, it is much more sensitive than that found in a smart phone or sat-nav device, allowing the Monit system to provide the most precise vehicle-based satellite distance measurement available in a tripmeter. Combined with a Monit external antenna, and using the GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite systems, the professional quality receiver is able to deliver accurate distance and speed measurements anywhere on the planet

However, like all GPS systems, there are some limitations. When travelling through tunnels or inside buildings the GPS/GNSS signal can be degraded, reducing accuracy. For most competitors this will rarely be an issue, but for those who regularly operate tripmeters in these environments and require very high accuracy this performance loss might be unacceptable.

To address this Monit has developed its GPS+ technology. By combining the signals from a traditional tripmeter speed sensor and the GPS+ receiver, the GPS+ system is able to maintain high-accuracy operation in all situations.

How it works.

1. While a good satellite signal is available the rally computer operates from GPS+ alone, eliminating the need for time-consuming calibration and the error caused by wheel spin. In the background the GPS+ software continuously calibrates the wheel or speed sensor against the GPS measurements.

2. . If the satellite signal is lost the Monit GPS+ software automatically switches operation to the wheel or speed sensor. Accurate measurements will continue uninterrupted.

3. When the satellite signal is restored operation seamlessly switches back to GPS.

Note: If no wheel or speed sensor is connected the unit will add the straight line distance between where the GPS signal is lost and regained instead.

Wheel sensor only mode.

If you are competing in events where GPS is not allowed the Monit G-Series includes the ability to disable the GPS system completely. When this is done it will operate from a wheel speed sensor just like a traditional rally computer. All other functions will still be available.
